Inside the book.

The first pattern book I examined was a very early 20th century Jacquard loom pattern book.

The designs on the fabric samples were a mixture of flowers and Chinese symbols.

A flower design cut out digitally from a photo of a cloth sample.

I have always been interested in images which record the effects of time and I started to find many samples in the pattern books.

The fabric in the book had been folded and creased and this distorted the patterns.

Playing with a series of images from one fabric sample.

The final small embroidery is worked in free motion machine stitch on felt with some hand stitch added at the end.
